Shan Xue, a third-year Ph.D. student in the John A. Reif, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, received the 2021 Graduate Student Award in Environmental Chemistry (ENVR) Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS). Supervised by Professors Wen Zhang and Taha Marhaba, Shan has dedicated unparalleled efforts toward the investigations of properties of nanobubbles and their application in agriculture and site remediation, highly intriguing and under explored areas. For example, she studied the aeration and dissolution behavior of oxygen nanobubbles in water was published on Journal of Collide and Interface Science in 2021. In addition, she was also involved in writing two books’ chapter on nanobubble technology and reactive membrane. Besides publications, she is also actively engaged in other relevant research projects related to environmental chemistry. She delivered a number of presentations in conferences, such as 2021 ACS annual conference, 10th Nano conference and 2021 Eastern Analytical Symposium & Exposition. This ACS award recognizes graduate students who are working in areas related to environmental chemistry. The award is based on student transcripts and record of research productivity, a brief discussion of their future goals, and a letter of recommendation from the faculty advisor. The awardees receive cash and membership in the Environmental Division for one year. Shan Xue’s research significantly contributes to understandings of fundamental science of nanobubbles and innovative green applications.
