The New Jersey Institute of Technology Team Establishes a Research Partnership with the USDA to Study Nanobubble Technology for Local Farmers under funding support from Environmental Protection Agency Pollution Prevention (P2) program
On January 16th, Dr. Wen Zhang and his two doctoral students, Shan Xue and Yihan Zhang, teamed up with two USDA scientists visited two farms in NJ (Edible Garden and YB farm), where they met the farm management team. Dr. Wen Zhang also had a meeting with a chief officer from the third farm Geogreens on the next day at NJIT and discussed the EPA P2 project scope (e.g., exploration of nanobubble water for irrigation and disinfection) and introduced the impacts of nanobubble technology on food safety of fresh produce and processing procedures. They will collaborate to explore (1) the use of air and CO2 nanobubbles in water for plant irrigation; (2) the use of reactive ozone nanobubbles for water disinfection. In the meantime, they will assess the potential savings of freshwater, electricity and chemicals (e.g., disinfectants) after adopting nanobubble technology.
