Welcome to Wen’s Research Group
Wen Zhang is leading the Sustainable Environmental Nanotechnology and Nanointerfaces Laboratory at NJIT. My research at NJIT embraces (1) hybrid atomic force microscope (AFM) for nanoscale characterization of nanomaterials or reactions, such as in situ chemical and electrochemical mapping; (2) Colloidal behavior and interfacial processes for engineered nanomaterials, plastic particulates and nanobubbles in water; (3) Reactive membrane filtration systems enabled by photocatalytic, electrochemical and electromagnetic catalysis for water/wastewater treatment and membrane distillation (MD). My research areas or application areas span from agricultural applications to energy systems such as lithium-ion battery. More details are available at my website: www.wenresearch.com.
My research goals address the climate change challenges in environmental pollution abatement, improved resilience and agricultural systems. For instance, my research incorporates green chemical processes via electrified treatment technologies, nutrient recovery from wastewater, desalination from hyper brines, lithium ion battery repurposing and recovery, microalgae removal, bioaerosol treatment and viral removal, methane emission mitigation and agricultural irrigation using novel nanobubble and hydrogel technologies.
